AFC Halifax 4 Huddersfield Terriers Net 0
Coach Barker named the same starting 11 as we had for the ill-fated Burnley game the week previous and from the outset AFC pushed forward and looked to attack at every opportunity. Kev Dawson shot narrowly wide and other chances went astray too before a neat move down the left involving Robinson and Dawson left Andrew Hembly's the easiest of tap ins to open the scoring. Huddersfield responded well and but for two great one on one saves by AFC keeper Wiggy they would have scored. However it was AFC who struck again just before half time with a sweeping counter attack down the right hand side ended with a quality finish from Hemblys lifting the ball superbly over the advancing keeper. So 2 - 0 at half time and with Tigger and Woollhouse replacing fullbacks Sunderland and Casalino AFC continued where they left off with effective midfield duo of Addy and Bishop running the show and with wide men Varley and Dawson a constant threat it took some smart saves from the Terriers keeper and some last ditch defending to keep the score down. As it was it was Dawson who added a third from 12 yards when he drilled a loose ball home to make it 3-0. Cowan came on to replace Barker in the AFC back four which never really looked troubled in the second half and with Holland replacing the hard working Robinson up front and Whitehead on for Varley AFC always looked likely to score more. However only one more goal followed but what a cracker starting from the defence the ball was quickly moved up field into the Huddersfield area and after a sublime back heel from Hemblys into the path of Martin Bishop the midfielder made no mistake with his left foot smashing the ball into the top corner from 10 yards. Despite constant pressure the score remained 4 -0 even though youngster Whitehead was denied a goal scoring chance when tackled 8 yards from goal er... by his own player - ooops.
Pleasing points from an AFC perspective were the clean sheet and after last week no injuries.
Difficult to pick a man of the match as there were good performances all over the park so suffice to say job well done, 3 IFA points and hopefully we are back on track now.
