Former Halifax Town striker Shane Smeltz has signed a two year deal with Wellington Phoenix.

Smeltz, who is a New Zealand International forward, has spent two weeks negotiating a deal with the new A-League side.

He joined the Shaymen last season from AFC Wimbledon, playing 31 games. However he only started 13 times and scored two goals. Town boss

Chris Wilder released Smeltz at the end of the season.

Meanwhile former Halifax Town defender Phil Brown has been given a tough task in masterminding Hull City into the Premiership in the next three years.

Brown, who has had spells as assistant manager at Bolton and boss at Derby, has a new group of owners at the KC Stadium. They want to see the Tigers in the Premiership for the first time in the club's history

He played for the Shaymen in the 1980's.
