An emotional rollercoaster for everyboy connected with Halifax Town today as Town lose 2-1 at home to Stevenage Borough but have survived the drop as Altrincham have drawn 2-2 at Weymouth.
Town knew that their destiny was in their own hands and if they had avoided defeat at the Shay then safety would have been ensured on its own merit.
However The Shaymen never do things the easy way and goals from Steve Morison and Gavin Grant helped Stevenage into a 2-0 lead. Top goalscorer Jon Shaw did pull one back from the penalty spot but despite plenty of pressure and efforts couldn't find that elusive equaliser.
Town had to wait until 10 minutes after the final whistle to hear the news from the Wessex Stadium that Altrincham hadn't got the result they were looking for. The cue for supporters and players to celebrate.
The Shaymen now have to get through the issues with administration and CVA and can then look forward to next season.
