Lewis Killeen scored for the 4th successive season in an away fixture to Exeter City, but unfortunately for The Shaymen his first goal of the season was to no avail as they crashed to a 4 v 1 defeat. But, it must be stressed the final results flatters the home side enormously.

With injuries to key players Chris Wilder was forced to reshuffle his troops meaning a full debut for Nick Gray and a seasonal debut for Ryan Toulson.

The changes certainly did not affect Town as they took the game to Exeter in the opening stages.A well worked 3rd minute free kick ended with Jake Wright's 25 yard shot narrowly missing the target but a succession of Steve Torpey corners failed to test the home defence.

Not to be deterred Torpey played a key role in Killeen's 17th minute goal.Tyrone Thompson won a midfield duel and passed to Torpey who released Killeen on the left side of the box and his first time left foot shot had to be precise to beat Martin Rice.It was and The Shaymen had a deserved lead.

Grey Young received a yellow card for a midfield tangle with Adam Stansfield.Exeter worked the free kick to the right side and Craig Mawson looked to be clearly fouled but miraculously the Assistant adjudged the Town Keeper had taken the ball out of play.Jon Challinor rose to head home the resulting corner and the scores were level.Mawson protested to no avail.Shortly afterwards Jake Wright was cautioned as Mr Phillips performance became as erratic as last year when he was in charge of the same fixture in which Denny Ingram and Chris Wilder were red carded during the half time interval.

Chances were few and far between for both sides and the interval saw the game all square at 1 v 1.

The start to the second half was a mirror image of the first with Town on top.Nick Gray and Danny Forrest had shots at goal.Mawson saved well to deny Challinor a second goal but there was a worrying moment for Town when Lee Phillips was allowed to head for goal whilst clearly 5 yards offside.Gray had another shot after good work from Torpey who was replaced by Chris Senior soon afterwards.

A quick throw in on the left led to Exeter taking the lead as a near post cross was turned home by Adam Stansfield.Town responded well with Gray having a shot deflected over and Rice pulled off a great one handed save from Forrest's shot.

In a cruel ending Town conceded two late goals as they chased an equaliser.Jamie Mackie raced clear from a long ball and "scored" but the ball went through the side netting but stayed in play. The Assistant emphasised his incompetent afternoon by failing to see the "goal" but Adam Stansfield was alert enough to beat Jake Wright and score.

In the last minute Challinor added a fourth but whilst the final result may look emphatic it in no way reflects the course of the game.

Chris Wilder will look to Tuesday's game away to Rushen and Diamonds as the one where his side get a deserved result for the efforts on their travels.
