Town vs Weymouth

Halifax Town head north after this afternoon's game disappointed after losing 1-0 at high flying Weymouth courtesy of Simon Weatherstone's early goal.

Wayne Jacobs said after the game, "A fantastic performance and given the week we've had at the football club this week, the players have put out a top class performance like that., with fantastic attitude and were really pleased with the performance but not with the result."

The Shaymen got off to the worst possible start, a foul by captain Martin Foster on Simon Wetherstone 35 yards from goal gave The Terras their first opportunity. Goalkeeper Craig Mawson set up a four man wall, however the ball from Wetherstone went under the ball and bounced past Mawson to put Garry Hill's side ahead.

On 9 minutes, a foul on Foster on the left hand side gave the Shaymen a chance from their first piece, however his freekick was headed away from danger for a throw.

Andy Campbell

Jake Wright on the left hand side found Gus Uhlenbeek, who started the game on the right side of midfield and he forced our first corner. Foster's set piece was cleared at near post and Weymouth tried to counterattack but Nick Crittenden was offside just past the half way line.

Craig Mawson and Chukki Eribenne had a clash of heads on 13 minutes after Crittendens head on, both players had treatment and were fine to carry on the hame.

Eribenne beat Quinn for pace on 16 minutes, Mawson made a good save with his feet and then saved the rebounded effort. Former Town winger Lee Elam went down the wing, his cross was headed out by Greg Young for a corner. Quinn and then Young cleared successive crosses.

Town's best effort of the first half came on 19 minutes, a foul on Uhlenbeek at the edge of the box, a well worke freekick found Jake Wright who fired inches over Arran Lee-Barrett's crossbar.Dean Howell came on for Nick Crittenden on 22 minutes.

Ryan Sugden

Raphael Nade had an effort well wide, Howell was fouled by Thompson and Jake Wright cleared the danger for the Shaymen.

Dean Howells pace got him past Mark Roberts on 33 minutes, his pass found Elam who crossed into the box but the flag was up for offside.

Mawson sent a freekick up field on 37 minutes and he found Sugden, who turn and shot wide and high of the right hand post.

With six minutes remaining of the half, Chris Wilder brought Andy Campbell on for Mark Roberts. Within a minute a freekick into the Shay defence saw Mawson punch the ball went up in the air but Weymouth couldnt get a shot in on target.

Jake Wright and Lee Elam

Campbell was fouled on the edge of the box on 41 minutes, Wrights freekcik was cleared to Greg Young, he was fouled and the ball played out to the wing however the cross lacked quality and Wemouth cleared.

Town came out in the second half with more purpose, Ryan Sugden went past the defender on the right wing and got himself into the box, as he looked for a cross, he went down under the challenge of the fullback but no penalty was awarded.

Uhlenbeek saw his cross headed over the bar for a corner. Weymouth man of the match Simon Downer cleared Foster's corner back to Uhlenbeek who found Foster, his cross was deflected for a corner. It was cleared by Abdou El Kholti to Lee Elam but he couldn't find anyone with his final pass.

On 55 minutes, Campbell, Killeen and Forrest combined with the latters shot hitting a defender, then Campbell attack down the left he got himself into the box and a good save by Lee-Barrett with his feet stopped the equaliser. Young headed over from the resulting corner.

Town fans

With twenty minutes remaining, Chris Senior replaced Danny Forrest. Campbell won Town another corner on 73 minutes off Jason Tindall, with Ryan Sugden heading wide at the near post.

Elam tried his look from distance but couldn't find a way past Craig Mawson, while Shane Smeltz replaced Ryan Sugden on 76 minutes.

Campbell again did well down the right hand side, his cross cum shot was saved by the goalkeeper only to Senior whose shot seemed to be handled in the area, but referee Graham Horwood again waved away the appeals.

A long ball forward was headed by Jason Tindall into the path of Senior unmarked in the box but the striker didnt expect the ball and his shot went straight at Lee-Barrett.

An overhead kick by Tyrone Thompson found Senior on 84 minutes, two more shots were saved by the goalkeeper and Campbell steadied himself and saw his shot blocked.Nade headed wide under pressure from Young.

Steve Tull yforced MAwson into a one handed save over the bar from 35 yards, Howells corner saw Mawson puh and Ben Smiths volley went wide of the post.

Campbell again did well on right hand side, his cross found Shane Smeltz who stole in front of his marker but his shot ended up in the side netting. Jake Wrights cross came of Abdou El Khoti for a corner, it was cleared only to Wright but the flag was up for offside again. Eribenne headed over in injury time.

Town are disappointed to be heading north but there are plenty of positives out of this game, mainly the perfomance of striker Andy Campbell who worked hard to make chances for the Shaymen.

If The Shaymen carry on in this vein, then the tide should change sooner rather than later.
