Chris Wilder has called for an end to the uncertainty over the proposed investment at Halifax Town as he believes the ongoing situation is having a detrimental effect on his players. And, he added that he feels that both himself and his squad and first in the firing line for disgruntled supporters.
These comments followed the 0 V 0 draw against Histon who are embarking on their first season at this level following promotion from the Conference South last season.
For the game itself Daryl Taylor was passed fit so Wilder enjoyed a rare luxury of naming the same starting line up that featured against Altrincham during the week. And, the early part of the game promised much with Andy Campbell almost adding to his midweek brace but outstretched keeper Mark Osborn turned away his curling left foot shot.
With Darryn Stamp winning the aerial battle there was promise up front for The Shaymen. He flicked a corner into Lewis Killeen's path but his rising shot just missed the target.
The Cambridgeshire visitors offered little in attack with the Town rearguard rarely troubled. The biggest threat was from the aptly named Adrian Cambridge's long throws but Adam Quinn and Cortez Belle dealt with these admirably.
An eagle eyed Linesmen spotted Campbell offside on the half hour mark as he looked to be through on goal when Tom Kearney, won a midfield duel and released the front man.Kearney then received a yellow card a minute later for kicking the ball away.
During stoppage time Campbell won the ball wide on the left and set up Matt Doughty to cross for Stamp but his hearer failed to hit the target and the first half ended goalless.
Stamp headed a Steve Bushell cross wide in the 51st minute and Bushell himself had shots in the 52nd and 56th minutes that failed to hit the target.
Kearney and Taylor worked a crossing position on the right but Killeen deflected the ball away from Campbe3ll with the ex Middlesbrough man about to unleash a shot at goal.
Substitute Danny Wright had Histon's first shot of note in the 71st minute but it lacked the power to trouble Craig Mawson.
Steve Torpey and Danny Forrest joined the action replacing Taylor and Stamp and Torpey set up Andy Campbell with a subtle pass into the penalty area.Campbell hit the deck with Referee Metcalfe was unimpressed despite loud penalty appeals.Bushell had 2 further efforts but failed to hit the target again.
Rob Scott headed a Torpey corner wide and the game petered out into a disappointing 0 V 0 draw.Chris Wilder was an obviously disappointed man after the game. Hopefully the week ahead will provide him with the time to boost his sides confidence but only time will tell if things move forward off the field of play.
