Halifax Town and Evesham United were both in the hat for the 1st round draw of the FA Cup after a 0-0 draw at St George's Lane.
The Shaymen were massive favourites for the game against Evesham, however were unable to convert one of many chances and will have to settle for a replay at the Shay on Tuesday night.
Chris Wilder was disappointed with the final ball into the box as Town dominated possession but were unable to score past Evesham goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan.
The home side started the game on the attack with Adam Quinn fouling Mark Owen. The ball into the box was headed on by Danny Hodnett towards Owen and he wasn't far away from having an easy tap in.
A lively front man in Danny Lennon raced onto a ball over the top on 3 minutes and went down in the box as Quinn and Young tried to deal with the ball and Sheffield referee Craig Pawson waved away the home side's appeals for a penalty.
Tom Kearney wasted Town's first opportunity after Doughty had been fouled on the left side with his free kick sailing out of play.
Lewis Killeen playing on the right side of midfield found Shaw in space at the edge of the box; he quickly turned and fired his shot wide of the post.
A quick throw in from Matt Doughty to Steve Torpey saw a first time cross go into the box and Vaughan did well to tip the ball over the bar for a corner. He managed to get something on the cross in but the ball fell to Steve Bushell in the box. He chested the ball down but didn't get a clean connection and hit his shot over the bar.
Quinn lost the ball on 9 minutes giving Owen a chance and his low shot was easy for on loan goalkeeper Adam Legzdins.
Jon Shaw won Town a corner on 11 minutes, Kearney's ball was met by Quinn but his header was always rising and went over the bar.
Doughty took a quick free kick after a foul by the halfway line, he found Steve Torpey whose shot was not held by Vaughan but the ball didn't fall kindly for Stamp who was heading away from goal and his cross/shot was high and wide of the target.
Within a couple of minutes Torpey had another effort not held by the home goalkeeper and again the ball didn't fall kindly to either Stamp or Killeen who went down in the box but no penalty was given.
Doughty and Torpey continued to probe going forward and won a corner on 19 minutes, Kearney's ball was aimed for Shaw but Vaughan took the ball in his own six yard box.
Shaw and Doughty combined on the left and the former Burton striker's shot was deflected for a corner. The ball in was two high for Quinn and he played a 1-2 with Lewis Killeen and his cross was cleared for a corner. Steve Torpey whipped a ball in and Greg Young rose at the far post to head wide of the post.
Killeen picked up the ball in midfield on 25 minutes and found Doughty on the overlap, his cross was trying to find Stamp but Vaughan was able to claim the ball at the near post.
Steve Torpey and Shaw combined to find Lewis Killeen who was fouled 20 yards from goal. Steve Bushell's shot beat the 6 man wall but was unable to find its way past Vaughan.
The home crowd was cheering for a second on 38 minutes, the ball was worked down the left and their front man lobbed Adam Legzdins. However the assistant referee had already put his flag up for offside.
Tom Kearney had an opportunity to put in a good set piece on 40 minutes but the ball went sailing out of play for a second time.
Town started the second half brightly as they tried to create the chance that would put them ahead. Bushell found Torpey out side he stood his cross up for Killeen who beat his man and curled his shot inches wide of the post.
Stamp and Torpey combined on 47 minutes with Stampy trying to chip the goalkeeper but the ball went over from 18 yards out.
The Shaymen won a corner after Stamp, Shaw and Killeen combined, Vaughan managed to punch Torpey's cross away to Kearney who saw his shot blocked.
Doughty and Torpey down the left got the ball back to Kearney who found Heslop 30 yards from goal but his shot was over the bar.
The home side won a free kick on 53 minutes and Michael Hayden tried an audacious shot from the centre circle which had Legzdins scrambling back but the ball landed on top of the net.
Town continued to push forward with Young having a header from a Torpey corner.
Chris Wilder brought on Michael Branch for his debut in place of Stamp as he looked to changed things around. The former Everton and Chester front man was in the action straight away, finding Kileen in the box, he found Torpey who set up Tom Kearney but he dragged his shot wide of the target.
Jon Shaw lost the ball in midfield on 66 minutes and Lennon wasted no time in getting his shot in but it was wide of Legzdins' left hand post.
Alex Bailey replaced an ineffective Tom Kearney on 69 minutes with Heslop moving into midfield. Lennon went down the right and was stopped in his tracks by Quinn who conceded the corner but Town were able to clear.
Legzdins throw to Doughty on 76 minutes saw the fullback charge forward and Steven Hands got in his tackle in the penalty area and cleared the ball into touch.
Doughty put in a cross a minute later which saw Shaw head wide but Mr Pawson had already blown for a foul.
An Evesham long ball forward was deflected out for a corner. Lewis Killeen cleared in his own penalty area; Steve Luckett sent the ball out wide and the first time cross was a good one but no home player could get on the end of it.
Shaw layed a ball off for Heslop after route one football from Legzdins but the ball was over the bar again.
Town felt they should have had a penalty in the last couple of minutes when Lewis Killeen went down in the box. However the referee was in a good position and booked Killeen for a dive.
The replay will be at the Shay on Tuesday night, kick-off 7-45pm.
