Halifax Town have booked their place in the semi finals of the Setanta Shield with a 3-1 win over Burton Albion at the Shay tonight.

The Shaymen went ahead in injury time through Mark Whitehouse's second goal for the club after good work from Andy Campbell.

Campbell turned poacher in the second half with two goals in three minutes however Jake Edwards did pull one back in between for Nigel Clough's side.

Town made changes to the side that started at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday but always looked in control over playoff hopefuls Burton.

Thomas Harban, Simon Ainge, Jake Wright and Matt Doughty were a four man defence in front of Craig Mawson who came into the side instead of Adam Legzdins.

There was a welcome return for Daryl Taylor who has been out for a while with injury, while Mark Whitehouse started the game alongside Tom Kearney and Nicky Gray while Andy Campbell continued his return to full fitness with 90 minutes under his belt alongside Lewis Killeen.

Burton thought they had taken the lead in the 4th minute but the linesman had already raised his flag for offside before the ball hit the net.

Andy Campbell, Nicky Gray, Whitehouse and Taylor all had efforts in the first half as The Shaymen looked to beat Burton  for the first time in six attempts.

Campbell's through ball in injury time found Mark Whitehouse and his first time effort beat Saul Deeney in the Brewers goal to give the Shaymen a deserved first half lead.

Town doubled the lead on 61 minutes as Thomas Harban's throw found it's way to Campbell and his shot was past Deeney to make it 2-0.

Jake Edwards headed home for Burton a minute later which gave the visitors hope however Andy Campbell had other ideas beating the offside flag to curl a shot around Deeney to make if 3-1.

Marc Goodfellow had an effort bounce off the post into Craig Mawson's hands with ten minutes remaining but Town held firm and booked their place in the next round.

Town will travel to Rushden & Diamonds on Thursday 27th March, 7-45pm kickoff
