EUFC Replay :- Wilder's View
Chris Wilder was pleased with seeing his side getting through to the 1st Round of the FA Cup tonight.
He said after the game. "It is sometimes hard to get the first win in a while. We hadn't won in 4 or 5 games and it has been frustrating. The lads have shown early this season when we won 3 out of 4 games that they are good players. However I think a few of them are lacking a little in confidence at the moment. Jon Shaw scored from a few yards out and maybe if we had converted another couple the confidence may have come back.
I think Jon will be thinking he could have had a hattrick this evening. The game needed winning and that's what we have done.
In regards to their first goal I think its unfortunate that Quinny slips, there's nothing we can do about that. The players have shown character, I think you need character to be involved with this football club and we've scored two great goals through Shaw and Heslop.
I was frustrated at the end with the last 15 minutes as we didn't play or pass the ball well enough, however hopefully the win tonight will have restored some confidence back into the players. We'll take the win however it comes and we'll look to build on that."
Before kick-off the club announced that the Winding Up order by the Inland Revenue had been cancelled -
Wilder said with tongue in cheek - "It doesn't matter to us! The players don't read the newspapers or teletext. They don't care and we are expected to carry on as nothing as happened. They don't care about the Football Club, they just come here to pick their money up! When people know they may be out of work tomorrow and it happens in a lot of places within the workplace. It might just affect people. I might lose my job because I'm not a good manager, that's what some people think at the moment and I'll have to prove them wrong again. It's up to the players to show their character despite the fact they could have been out of work and your looking for a job with the mortgage, loans to pay and kids to feed. Hopefully we can put it behind us now, move forward and be a little more positive about the future.
Hopefully we'll get a good crowd on Saturday in a game which I believe we can win. We have a fantastic home record and were desperately keen to keep that in tact. They'll be an hungry lot in there on Saturday wanting to give it a go."
