David Brown's 70th minute goal condemned FC Halifax Town to a single goal pre season defeat away to Unibond Premier Division side Guiseley tonight. But in keeping with the other pre season games so far there was promise of better things to come from the new look Shaymen as they continue to build towards the Bamber Bridge game in 9 days time.

Both sides missed a penalty with Neil Ross' effort saved on 31 minutes and Phil Senior producing a similar low save to deny David Brown 9 minutes after the interval.

Junior Brown tormented his opponent in the first period with a number of tricky runs but Dorryl Proffitt was unable to supply the finish from one teasing cross. Neil Ross forces the home keeper into a low save with a deflected shot. A foul on Proffitt led to Ross' spot kick being saved as The Shaymen had the better of the first period.

Ross fires over at the start of the second half then Thomas Harban was adjudged to have fouled ex Shaymen Mark Whitehouse but Phil Senior saved the penalty.

Both sides made numerous substitutions with an injury to Thomas Harban's ankle forcing Jim Vince into a defensive reshuffle.

The game's only goal came when Brown latched onto a long ball forward, beat the advancing substitute keeper Craig Mawson and netted from a narrow angle.

New signing Ashley Stott joined the action and looked lively but was unable to find the equaliser his sides efforts deserved.

Jim Vince told the official site, "I thought it was very encouraging and I am pleased by the display. The result is irrelevant at this stage. The performances of the players tonight we matched them and in periods of the game we were better than them.

We picked up a few injuries which will happen. Ryan Sugden has pulled his thigh prior to the game while Tom Harban has gone over on his ankle and could be out for a few weeks.

I was disappointed we didn't stick our penalty away. It was a good opportunity and we need to be capitalising on them. Fair play to Rossy, he's taken the responsibility and it hasn't worked out for him but I am sure it will do next time.

Anyone that saw the game tonight will have seen that Ashley Stott was very quick. His movement is fantastic and he will score us plenty of goals this season."
