SRFC Match :- Preview
Weather permitting, Town play host to Stafford Rangers this weekend, with high hopes of the full 3 points against a team staring relegation in the face.
Rangers this week appointed former Wolverhampton Wanders and England hitman Steve Bull as their new manager, in a bid to turn the tide at Marston Road, with 42 year old caretaker manager Neil Grayson returning to solely playing duties.
Stafford have been victorious in their last two BSP games.Firstly, a comfortable home win against Weymouth, followed by an even more impressive away victory to play off candidates Forest Green Rovers. They will come to the Shay brimming with confidence, and with every member of the team willing to impress the new boss; they're likely to give Halifax a run for their money.
One man who won't be visiting the Shay with Rangers is David McNiven.Once a target of Chris Wilder, McNiven has been in disappointing form in the current, and has moved on loan to Farsley Celtic until the end of the season.Coincidentally, Town's only league win of this year came against Farsley on January 1st.
New loan signing Tom Clarke, who comes to the Shay on a months loan from Huddersfield Town could feature on Saturday.Clarke was born and bred in Calderdale, and will slot in somewhere along the back line, if required. With Adam Quinn out, the back four is a lottery for selection, and it's many people's thinking that a consistently chopped and changed defence has been the undoing of Town this season.
Craig Nelthorpe looks set to start on the left of midfield after Steve Torpey's departure in midweek, and Heslop, Griffiths and Kearney will be left scrapping it out for the midfield berths, although Mark Whitehouse, who has impressed since arriving from Ossett Albion could make a start on the right.
With Town seemingly edging closer towards the relegation zone, there has never been a better time to hunt down all 3 points in this one.The Shay faithful will hope that leading scorer Jon Shaw can find the net once again, and partnering him is likely to be Lewis Killeen.
A return to winning ways is on the cards on Saturday, so get there early, grab a hot drink, and enjoy the game.
