RDFC Match :- Preview
Halifax Town's congested fixture list sees them travel to Rushden and Diamonds in the semi-final of the Setanta Shield on Thursday evening. And whilst The Shaymen have a very realistic chance of winning a place in the final against Aldershot, at Aldershot a week on Thursday, everyone connected with the Club will rightly tell you that Saturday's trip to Exeter is a far more important fixture.
With the Club hovering near the relegation zone Chris Wilder has every right to save his stronger team for Exeter but competition rules dictate he has to play a strong line up at Nene Park. But, why should players at this level be expected to play games 150 miles and 280 miles from home respectively within 48 hours of each other?
Fixture priorities apart Town have injury problems especially up front with Jon Shaw, Andy Campbell and Nathan Joynes on the treatment table so a return for Darryn Stamp form his loan spell at Northwich Victoria could be on the cards. At the back Adam Quinn is a likely absentee as injury forced him from the field after only 15 minutes at Droylsden.
Recalls could be in store for Thomas Harban, Nicky Gray and Mark Whitehouse as the Manager reshuffles his pack but whatever team he selects they will be looking for a change of fortunes against Rushden this season. In both Blue Square Premier games the Diamonds equalised in stoppage time and 2 late goals took them to victory in the FA Trophy game as well so Town are certainly due a change of fortune.
