Garforth Town U19's 1 Halifax T U19's 1
Halifax had much of the early play with Douglas feeding Sheriffe and Kennedy putting Heppenstall through on goal - both players forcing the Garforth keeper into good saves. Oldroyd then tested the keeper low at his near post before Holt headed narrowly wide from a Douglas free kick - one of several good crosses delivered by Douglas during the course of the afternoon. Garforth then put two shots over the bar from the edge of the box - one from a corner and one from a free kick - before the game was turned on its head by a very 'soft' goal. A Garforth player was allowed to receive the ball from a throw-in deep in the Halifax half and whilst Kennedy adopted an 'I'll get there in my own time approach' the player pushed a rather banal ball forward. Spratt appeared to play an impromptu game of 'waft the kipper' allowing the ball to squirm past him into the path of the incoming Devlin. Facing his own goal inside the 6 yard box Devlin tried a back pass but only succeeded in prodding past the out coming Proctor. With the advantage of a strong wind and a slight downward slope much of the play belonged to Halifax in the second half but they took until the 88th minute to force an equaliser with a rather scrappy goal. Proctor punted the ball deep into the oppositions' half and the keeper got in a fifty/fifty tussle outside his box. Sheriffe won the dual and squared the ball to Holt who placed it past 2 defenders into the net.
Management Opinion: Another good performance interrupted by a small, bizarre performance from the Chuckle Brothers. Nonetheless a pleasing day at the office with us restricting the opposition to just 5 goal scoring chances [3 of which were long range shots], creating three times more chances then them, collecting our first point away from home this season, proving that we can adapt our style of play to suit testing conditions and managing to go through a game without missing a penalty. As a group we can't wait for the next match.
